In the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of delivering coats and warm clothing along with pairs of boots for Big Brother Big Sister. We didn’t collect a lot but the items were beautiful. One particular bib and coat set was almost brand new. Someone will be looking very stylish in their new winter outfit.
We again asked the clubs to donate either new toys or money for the Toys for Tots program and as usual the snowmobilers came through with flying colors.
The tree at the December SAM meeting was lined with toys in all shapes and sizes. I even heard someone comment “hey that’s what I wanted.” Big Kids, right?!
We were scheduled to deliver them Sunday morning December 15th. As you might remember it was our first big snowstorm of the year. The Marine Corp was nervous this might bring the totals down but people came through and they collected a good amount of toys.
The snowmobile clubs provided… are you ready… 220 toys and $310! Amazing!!!!! I am so proud to be part of a state association such as SAM. When the need is there, you come through.
With the holiday season coming to a close, and all of us out riding the trails we have worked on, don’t forget that there is always a “need.” We have generously given from our hearts and provided needed clothes and toys for kids who don’t have the same opportunities we have.
Next time you’re out on your snowmobile (which, face it, is a big toy), think about how very fortunate we are. While your sled may not be the latest and greatest, it gets us out in the snow together and provides a lot of fun.
There is always a “reason” for each season. Be there to help when the call comes out. A neighbor struggling to shovel, a stranger caught in a bind who needs a helping hand. That stranger is someone’s mother, father, son, daughter etc. They are people who need us. Yes, there are those who might not be legit but do we know which is which? Be open to giving and you will be given so much more in exchange.
In closing, thank you for all you do and give. I am proud to have you as friends.
