Snowmobiling is a year round sport. It is not uncommon to have regular meetings throughout the year to prepare for the upcoming season. Sledmass is no different. So it was not unusual to have a meeting of the executive committee in May.
What was supposed to be a jump on the season wound up being a jump that none of us expected. Sledmass president Dan Gould started the meeting by announcing “I must resign as President of the association, as of July 1st I start my new job as Executive Director of the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association. Effective immediately V.P. Jeff Miller will take over as President.” Needless to say, you could hear a pin drop.
Once the shock wore off, we all realized what a dream job this is for Dan. He will be doing something he absolutely loves. Dan and his family will be moving to New Hampshire in the coming months, but they will always have a spot in their heart for Sledmass. We wish them the best of luck and great success. The NHSA is very lucky getting someone of his caliber to steer the association in the coming years. Thanks for all that you have done for us here, and we will see you on the trails this winter.
So what does that mean for us? It means we have a new President and we need to fill a few voids. Fortunately SAM is a strong organization and has a good group of talented volunteers to help short term, as well as long term. Contact me if you want to lend a hand.
Looking ahead, there are some key projects we need to accomplish.
The future looks bright for us here at Sledmass. We continue to move in a positive direction promoting the sport we love in this great state of Massachusetts. I for one am excited and proud to be involved with the growth of snowmobiling in this state. I am ready to work with the rest of the executive committee, the board of directors, and the clubs, to continue the great work that the association is known for.
Thank you.
