North Carolina Hurricane Victims Request Help From Snowmobile Clubs
Published on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 in Charity, General Announcements, News & Updates

The New Hampshire Snowmobile Association office received an unusual plea for help recently via phone and email. Rather than explain, we’ll share the basics of the email sent by a relief volunteer.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me this afternoon. We’ve been active providing supplies for residents displaced as a result of flooding and landslides from Hurricane Helene.

As I was telling you the situation of the residents of Western North Carolina is rather dire. We have thousands living in tents as well as thousands without power. The areas North of Asheville where we have been delivering supplies, run from 2,750 ft elevation in Burnsville to 5,500 ft in Beech Mountain.

The relief organizations are now requesting winter (zero degree) rated sleeping bags in anticipation of extreme cold in January, February and March (lows of -2 to highs of 6). The people there are not prepared for such an event.
Due to the very high cost of sleeping bags for that temperature I thought snowmobile suits would be a good alternative.

I was asking if you could contact the snowmobiling community, if they could ship their used suits South. We also need gloves, warm boots and suitable cold weather sleeping bags if they are available.

Your assistance in this effort would be greatly appreciated.
