The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has posted a draft document, Landscape Designations for DCR Parks & Forests: Selection Criteria and Management Guidelines. SAM members should take the time to review the document and understand how it will effect conservation and recreation in their towns. An earlier posting announced the public meetings and other details.
An Internal Working Group of DCR staff representing a wide range of expertise has developed a framework for designation of DCR State and Urban Parks property as Reserves, Parklands, and Woodlands, and developed a draft set of selection criteria and management guidelines. DCR will be seeking input on the draft management guidelines that are being developed for each of these three designations.
