For 2017 Arctic Cat swings a big bat with the all new 9000 Series snowmobiles powered by an outrageous 998cc turbocharged triple four-stroke engineered and manufactured by Yamaha.
While Arctic Cat is officially pegging output at 180 horsepower, independent voices claim are hinting at closer to 190 ponies. The C-TEC4 998 Yamaha manufactured triple EFI 4-stroke intercooler turbo is 10 pounds lighter than the old 1100 turbo Suzuki which it replaces.
Weight savings come from a lightweight, hardened steel connecting rods bolted to a new forged crankshaft. Forged aluminum pistons travel inside ceramic-coated aluminum cylinders with dual overhead camshafts. Throttle response is said to be wicked.
The new 9000 turbo engine is available in 2017 Arctic Cat 9000 Series snowmobiles, including all ZR models, with a mix 129 and 137 inch tracks. The new ZR Thundercat leads the line-up with an MSRP of $16,899. The XF Cross Trek, XF Cross Country and XF High Country crossovers start with a 137 inch track and climb all the way up to a 153 incher’ with a 1.75 lug.
Power is transferred via the new TEAM Rapid Response primary and secondary clutches, with automatic belt tension design that eliminates the need for manual adjustment. It also features a 12.5% lower effective starting ratio while maintaining the top ratio for smoother engagement and reduced belt wear at drive-away speed.
The demands of the new turbo engine called for better air flow and heat management, and Arctic Cat delivered with new body panels on the 9000 series snowmobiles. Not only do the panels fit better, but they are quickly and easily removable, allowing access to the engine compartment and major components.
New LED headlights enhance lighting performance and style. The low beam stays on even when high is selected, shining a wide light pattern with excellent distance. Special LED accent lighting come on when the key is turned during start-up.
Speaking of LED, the dual LCD gauge carries the odometer, trip meter, speedometer, engine hour, clock, fuel level indicator, battery voltage, coolant temperature, reverse and various warning lights.
