How old do I need to be to ride a snowmobile? The last time we reported on the age restrictions was almost a year ago, but things have changed since new regulations went into effect this year. This updated chart gives an easy to understand overview of how old a rider needs to be and what type supervision is required. (Here is the old chart for comparison) A safety course isn’t mandatory but many clubs offer them and are highly recommended. A free online course is even available. Additional information about the snowmobile regulations in Massachusetts are available here.

Could I ask for some clarificaion on the small print? What constitutes “preparation for an orgaized event”?

I would like to ask the same question. And if I understand the “directly supervised” right, anyone over the age of 10 can legally ride as long as someone over the age of 18 can visually or orally communicate with them. So, can my son ride legally if we have Communicators on our helmets? I hope so, would love to take him on a few short trail rides from home. Did it when I was a kid with my Dad, it was a long time ago but I will never forget it.
