Never consider ice safe when snowmobiling or enjoying other outdoor recreations. The up and down temperatures have made ice conditions unpredictable all over New England.

There have been several instances of people going through the ice already this winter, including riders on snowmobiles. MassWildlife has posted ice strength and safety information.

Drowning is a leading cause of snowmobile fatalities

Never trust the judgment of other snowmobilers by following their snowmobile tracks across ice. You are responsible for your own safety. If you choose to ride across ice, be absolutely certain the ice is safely frozen by testing the ice thickness.
